Jin-Xiang Yu

Jin-Xiang "JX" Yu was born in China and raised in Japan in a musical family. She grew up speaking Japanese, English, and Mandarin Chinese while learning Spanish at International Schools in Nagoya and Sapporo. She moved to New York City in 2007, and after graduating from The American Musical and Dramatic Academy in 2009 with a Certificate in Professional Performance Training in Musical Theatre, attended Mercy College as a Communications Disorder major. Currently, JX attends Queens College's Aaron Copland School of Music as a Linguistics and Classical Voice dual degree candidate. She currently studies Italian, French, German, Russian, and Czech, among many other languages, and she hopes to explore the language of music, as well as the music of language.

JX has performed at various venues, some of which include Merkin Hall, where she sang the principal role of Kaede in the world premiere of the Japanese opera, Mumyo and Aizen, and le Poisson Rouge, where she sang Tehillim with Face the Music and Alarm Will Sound. She has performed in Off-Broadway theatres, as well as in regional theaters across the U.S. Her recent roles include Fortuna in L’incoronazione di Poppea and Domina in A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum. She is a voice student of Mr. Andres Andrade.
